Sunrise Sessions

sunrise sessions

By this time of year the wind has pretty much settled into a distinct pattern which is very slight and off the land from dawn until 10am creating perfect conditions. From 10 until 4 the wind picks up and moves onshore until swinging and dropping again for the afternoon glass off. This pattern pretty much orders the day at the 7th sky idyll. Favorite session of the day for me was the sunrise surf, this involves rising around 5.30 walking the 5 metres from the front door to the beach and dipping my does in the always, due to years of conditioning, shockingly warm waters of the Indian ocean. From there it’s a quick paddle/battle against the oncoming whitewater to shake of the previous nights slumber, lion beers and Arracks and out to the back of the waves to wait for the first chunk of the day. The water is shared with a few other surfers and the stilt fishermen, who sit for hours on wooden poles drilled into the reef, these poles are passed down through generations, but i’d think twice if my dad offered me one! Waves or no waves it’s good to just hang out and watch the morning light show.
