Surely anyone who witnessed mbv this year would be placing them in their top 10, a truly awesome noise. Hearing Scout in what must be the worlds finest large indoor concert hall, the herzog and de meuron designed auditori in barcelona, was a gig i was convinced was going to be special, and in no way disappointed. Pissed jeans made it in to my top 10 for an incendiary performance in brooklyn, fueled by a touch of perceived danger, a hint perhaps of seeing the stooges before they turned panto.
Early 2009 Kicks off with bags of potential, am super excited about ATP on an old prison island in sydney harbour, nick cave, curating, reckons it’ll be like performing in alcatraz. Killer line up for a show in sydney pre festival at the oxford arts factory, Fuck Buttons, Dead Meadow and Afrirampo, sounds like a bill made in heaven to me. And then there’s Bon Iver palying at the city recital hall as part of the sydney festival, sure to be an interesting gig at an intersting venue.
Primavera looks to be shaping up nicely thankyou, with MBV, the vaselines, gang gang dance and spiritualized amonst the names already lined up. Will this festival ever dissapoint? I’ve already signed on the dotted line for 2009.
